Carding for a Cure

One Card...One donation at a time

What is Carding For A Cure?

Carding For A Cure is a way I’ve developed, with the help of many friends, to use SendOutCards as a tool to give back to my community. Everyone in the SOC Family can use this idea to support whatever cause they feel passionate about. My group’s focus is Breast Cancer Awareness, but Carding For A Cure could be adapted to work for any cause.

How did you choose Breast Cancer Awareness?

It all started in March of 2007, at the first meeting of our local chapter of the Eagles Flight Team Building Network (EFTBN). I am the City Leader for the St. Clairsville EFTBN, and we were tossing around ideas for our “giving back and bonding” process in the group. We all agreed that we wanted to support a cause that deserved our attention.

A very close friend and fellow distributor came to my mind. Lisa had recently undergone surgery and radiation treatment for Breast Cancer, and she is the Ultimate Survivor. During the course of her treatments, she remained upbeat and confident. Her prognosis is excellent, due to advancements in early detection and treatment.

I suggested to the group that Breast Cancer Awareness be our Chapter’s cause, and while talking it over, we found that everyone in the group had been touched by this disease in some way, either personally or through a close relative or friend.

So, that day, the decision was made that our chapter would make Breast Cancer Awareness our mission. And we would use SendOutCards in some way to promote it.

The very next day, as I pulled my copy of Prevention magazine from the mailbox, an insert fell out—one announcing the Avon Walks For Breast Cancer! And I felt that that was a sign.

We formed a team and began training for the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Walk in New York City in October 2007. Our team members, in addition to myself, were Linda Skrypek, Patty Dunlap, Harriet Meade, Connie Blake, Rick Mieze and Jeff Morris.

How did SendOutCards fit into your fundraising
plans?

I knew that I wanted to use SendOutCards as the way to get support for our cause. I conceived the idea of Carding For A Cure, and with the help of fellow distributor and graphic designer Paul Cramer, came up with the design, and got it approved by SOC. We also wore Carding For A Cure t-shirts in the walk (also approved) and these brought a lot of attention to our company and what we are all about.

We sent this card to everyone we knew—to over a thousand people— asking them to pledge their support for us in the 39 mile walk and educating them about Breast Cancer Awareness. And by using Carding For A Cure, we were able to meet our team’s goal of raising $10, 000 for the Avon Foundation.

Do you plan to take Carding For A Cure to another level?

My ultimate goal is for all Independent Distributors of SendOutCards to use Carding For A Cure as a template for whatever worthy cause they support. The card could be redesigned to fit any type of fundraiser—MS, Autism, Muscular Dystrophy, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society—the possibilities are endless. Carding For A Cure could raise millions of charitable dollars from the SOC family, and put our company on the map, as we walk the walk and talk the talk of “sending out to give” and “changing lives...one card at a time.”

I’d like to thank SendOutCards, for providing me with the means to do this, with the awesome tools that are available. All of us as Independent Distributors have access to these tools, and I want to challenge you all to use them. Carding For A Cure gives all of us an opportunity to make a difference in this life, something that may come along only once in a lifetime. Our company is built on the philosophy of changing lives...let’s do it in a big way with Carding For A Cure.

Success is not all about money. It’s about making a choice—choose to make things better.
